28+ Italian Cypress Tree Turning Brown. I'm thinking it is suffering from root rot. Unfortunately they are turn brown from inside out.

Unfortunately they are turn brown from inside out. I'm thinking it is suffering from root rot. I imagine that a previous owner of our property must have planted them and enjoyed the blocking they provided of a cinder block wall and neighboring houses.
I have not watered the tree since spring and it's late summer now.
I'm thinking it is suffering from root rot. Does the cypress need more water or is something else making it turn brown? This makes the italian cypress desirable in many landscapes. I live in maryville (eastern) tennessee.
