I have a jade plant and another succulent that have been suffering from a brown, withering scale.

So i transplanted the jade from the garden to a pot about 4 weeks ago.
I guess this should be at least partially true for jade. You need to recreate those natural conditions by. If your jade plant drops older leaves it might be a sign of too much heat, especially if you notice some other warning sounds such as soft, leggy growth. The leaves were a bit wrinkled, and two had brown spots, the paper towel that was wrapped on the roots could have also.
